New Delhi, Agencies. India has given a befitting reply to Pakistan, which made a statement on Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on Thursday said that Pakistan has no right to comment on Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan had objected to Prime Minister Modi laying the foundation stone for the construction of Ratle and Kwar hydroelectric projects on the Chenab river, saying it was a “direct violation” of the Indus Water Treaty.
When asked on the issue of change in India’s stand on Pakistan, Bagchi said that India’s stand is very straightforward that there should be an environment in which terrorism does not happen. Negotiations can take place only in a peaceful atmosphere. This has always been our main issue. This is our legitimate demand… there is no change.
It is worth mentioning that PM Modi was on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. He had laid the foundation stone of Ratle and Kwar hydroelectric projects during this visit. The 850 MW Ratle and 540 MW Kwar hydroelectric projects are to be constructed on the Chenab river in Kishtwar. These projects will cost around Rs 5,300 crore and over Rs 4,500 crore, respectively. Frustrated by PM Modi’s visit, Pakistan called it a ploy to show normalcy in the Valley.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi also defended the government on the issue of non-issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals. He said that we are aware of the situation of corona epidemic in China’s cities like Shanghai… This is not the right time to resume tourist visas for China. China itself has not issued visas to Indians. It is suspended (issuance of visa to India) from 2020…
Arindam Bagchi said that some components of ‘Vande Bharat’ (train) are made in Ukraine. The delivery schedule has been affected due to the fighting in Ukraine. We are looking for options for on-time delivery. However, the Ministry of Railways will give the exact details about the delivery of these components. Recently, PTI had said in its report that India had ordered 36 thousand sets of wheels for Vande Bharat trains to a Ukrainian company. This has been affected by the ongoing fighting in Ukraine. Currently 128 wheels have been brought to Romania.
